osu! Hard Rock PP Calculator
Hard Rock (HR) is one of the three core PP-boosting mods in osu!, offering a 1.10× PP multiplier. Unlike Double Time, which changes speed, Hard Rock increases the map's intrinsic difficulty: hit circles become smaller, approach rate increases, timing windows tighten, and the entire map is flipped vertically. These changes demand significantly higher precision from every click.

Hard Rock applies several simultaneous modifications to a beatmap:
- Circle Size (CS) +1.3× — circles become noticeably smaller, requiring more precise cursor positioning
- Approach Rate (AR) increases — circles appear for less time before you must click them, reducing reaction time
- Overall Difficulty (OD) +1.4× — timing windows shrink, making anything other than a perfect 300 harder to achieve
- HP Drain +1.4× — your health bar drops faster, punishing misses more severely
- Vertical map flip — the entire map is mirrored on the Y axis, which is particularly disorienting for players who have memorized maps right-side-up
The net effect is a map that tests aim precision and accuracy simultaneously. Many players find HR harder than DT at equivalent star ratings because DT's challenge is primarily speed, while HR demands surgical accuracy at all times.
HR PP Reference Values
| Star Rating | Accuracy | PP (approx) | vs No Mod |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3★ | 97% | 44pp | +6pp |
| 4★ | 96% | 122pp | +47pp |
| 5★ | 95% | 222pp | +79pp |
| 6★ | 93% | 375pp | +110pp |
| 7★ | 91% | 580pp | +120pp |
Hard Rock's PP advantage over No Mod is more pronounced at higher star ratings because OD and CS scaling creates larger performance differentials at the top end.
How to Approach Hard Rock
HR rewards players with excellent aim control and natural accuracy. If you frequently achieve 98%+ on No Mod maps, HR will feel more accessible than if you typically play at 94–95%. Here is a structured learning path:
- Master the map No Mod first. Unlike Hidden, HR drastically changes how maps feel. Learning a map with HR from scratch is inefficient — know the No Mod version well first.
- Start 1–1.5 stars below your NM level. The CS and AR increases make HR feel significantly harder than the star rating suggests.
- Do not ignore the vertical flip. Muscle memory from No Mod play will work against you on HR. Treat HR plays like learning the map from scratch, especially for jump sections.
- Prioritize accuracy over combos. The OD increase means missed 300s become 100s that hurt your accuracy PP significantly. Aim for clean hits rather than sustaining a risky combo.
HR vs DT — Which Gives More PP?
DT gives a higher raw multiplier (1.12× vs HR's 1.10×), but HR's actual PP advantage in practice depends on your play style. DT is generally better for aim-focused players who can maintain speed, while HR favors accuracy-focused players. Most top players eventually master both, since HRDT (1.232×) is one of the strongest combinations in the game.
