osu! Hidden PP Calculator
The Hidden (HD) mod is one of the most widely used mods in osu!, and for good reason: it offers a solid 1.06× PP multiplier while being far more learnable than mods like Double Time or Flashlight. If you want to climb the rankings, Hidden is usually the first mod you should invest time in.

When you enable Hidden, hit circles begin fading out before you are supposed to click them. The circles still appear normally at first — they fade as the approach circle closes in. This means you need to memorize or predict the timing rather than reacting to a fully visible circle. Sliders and spinners are also affected: sliders become partially or fully invisible as they travel, forcing you to remember their path.
Hidden does not change the star rating calculation in the same way that Hard Rock or Double Time do. However, it does meaningfully increase the challenge, which is why osu! awards you that 1.06× PP bonus on every Hidden play.
HD PP Reference Values
The table below shows approximate PP for full-combo (FC) Hidden plays at common star ratings with OD8 and roughly 1,000 hit objects. Use our calculator for exact numbers based on your specific map.
| Star Rating | Accuracy | PP (approx) | vs No Mod |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3★ | 98% | 42pp | +2pp vs NM |
| 4★ | 98% | 92pp | +5pp vs NM |
| 5★ | 97% | 158pp | +9pp vs NM |
| 6★ | 96% | 288pp | +16pp vs NM |
| 7★ | 95% | 490pp | +28pp vs NM |
| 8★ | 93% | 780pp | +44pp vs NM |
These values assume OD8, approximately 1,000 hit objects, and full combo. Real PP may differ based on the actual map's OD, AR, approach rate, and object density.
Learning Hidden: A Practical Approach
Most players learn Hidden by starting two full star ratings below their current comfortable No Mod level. If you can confidently FC 6★ maps with No Mod, start Hidden practice on 3.5–4★ maps and work your way up.
The key mental shift with Hidden is moving from reaction-based play to rhythm-based play. Instead of watching each circle and reacting to its approach ring, you need to internalize the map's rhythm. Many HD players describe it as "feeling" the music more deeply rather than reading the screen.
Several tips accelerate Hidden learning:
- Use a skin that makes early fading obvious. Some skins give circles a cleaner fade that makes the transition more predictable.
- Play the same map multiple times. Unlike No Mod, Hidden rewards map familiarity. Re-playing a map three or four times accelerates adaptation significantly.
- Start with lower approach rate (AR) maps. Lower AR gives circles more time to be visible, making the HD transition gentler.
- Don't chase accuracy immediately. Accept that your accuracy will drop 1–3% at first. Focus on keeping combo and let accuracy recover naturally as you adapt.
Combining Hidden with Other Mods
Hidden stacks multiplicatively with other mods. The most popular combinations are:
| Combination | Multiplier | Difficulty | PP Gain Example (300pp base) |
|---|---|---|---|
| HD only | 1.06× | Medium | 318pp |
| HD + DT | 1.187× | Very Hard | 356pp |
| HD + HR | 1.166× | Hard | 350pp |
| HD + HR + DT | 1.306× | Extreme | 392pp |
HD+DT (often called "HDDT") is the most common high-PP combination used by competitive players. It demands strong rhythm reading at high speed, but the multiplier makes it extremely effective for rank climbing.
