Why HDDT Dominates PP Farming

The reason HDDT is so prevalent in top players' score histories is a combination of accessibility and payoff. Hidden alone is relatively learnable. Double Time alone is the highest single-mod multiplier. Together, they provide a 1.187× bonus without requiring the brutal aim precision of Hard Rock or the extreme memorization of Flashlight.

Additionally, HDDT tends to be played on maps where the DT star rating lands in a sweet spot — not so hard that accuracy collapses, but hard enough that the PP numbers are significant. A skilled HDDT player can systematically target maps in the 5–7★ range and build a top-100 weighted PP list that consistently outpaces No Mod or single-mod players at the same raw skill level.

Prerequisites Before Learning HDDT

Jumping into HDDT without the right foundation is one of the most common mistakes intermediate osu! players make. Before attempting HDDT, you should have:

• Consistent Hidden play at your target star rating. If you plan to HDDT 6★ maps, you should be comfortable with HD on 6★ No Mod maps.
• Reliable Double Time at 1–1.5 stars below your target. HDDT on a 6★ map requires DT-level reading skills equivalent to at least a 4.5–5★ DT map.
• Above-average accuracy on both constituent mods. If HD drops your accuracy by 4% and DT drops it by another 4%, HDDT will destroy your accuracy PP and likely give you less PP than HD alone.

HDDT PP Farming Strategy

Effective HDDT farming is a systematic process, not just playing whatever is available:

• Build a target map list. Identify 10–15 maps where an HDDT FC would improve your top-100 PP list. Use the calculator to estimate the PP before committing grinding time.
• Focus on maps with regular, predictable patterns. Technical maps with complex slider paths and sudden direction changes are much harder under HDDT. Straightforward jump maps and stream maps are more reliable for PP.
• Accept accuracy drops strategically. If a 97% FC gives 480pp and a 94% FC with fewer misses gives 460pp, the 97% FC is worth chasing. But if misses happen too often, a cleaner 95% FC at 440pp might be more achievable for now.
